Q & A

It was very unorganized and rushed, but it was nice of them to do. I was very shocked to see janet and to see her like that is very heartbreaking.
i thought the beginning was a HUGE joke.
the singing was terrible and his "moon walk" was just terrible.
he was just walking backwards.
i think that they tried to do their absoult best, considering the timing,
but they shouldve made the BET awards SEPERATE from his tribute. because the people that won awards werent actually being respected either.
idk, that is just what i thought.
It didn’t flow well at all. Alot of times the own host and the presenters did not know they were live. It was a terrible lost this year. Yes, they had little time to prepare but still that does not mean people should label it a good show. With all the cursing, and some crazy moments on stage they really had the nerve to make it a "black" thing. They tried, but they failed.
Janet’s heartwarming tribute on the otherhand to her brother was the eye opener of the night. You could tell how emotional she was and it ended on a bitter sweet note.
i love jaime…he was doing everything, and i applaud him…
the performances where okay, i ahve seen better, but as far as the fact that they had to re do the thing in two days still stands, so it was great in my view…
Janet almost made me cry, period…i saw raw pain within her, and it just made me sad, but at the same time let me know he will be missed, and remebered all over again.
I missed most of the performance.
But I did come in at the end when Neyo and Jamie were singing I broke out in tears. It was all to short.
I started crying during Janet short speech thing.
it was sad and short <3
I cant imagine her pain.
RIP MICHEAL JACKSON <3
I thought it was great. For a show that takes months to plan to be completely changed in two days it was very well put together. It did have its not so good moments but overall it was great. I am a huge Michael Jackson fan and am still in shock over his death. As a tribute they did an awesome job of staying positive and showed him the respect that he deserved. No matter how people saw him, he is and always will be the greatest performer and icon of our generation. When Janet came out and expressed her gratitude, I started balling. Ne-Yo and Jamie’s "I’ll Be There" performance was emotional for me. Ne-Yo’s rendition of "Lady in my Life" was great also. I wish I could have seen him live. God bless his children and his family. Rest in peace Michael. I miss you immensely.
No I do not think Jaime Foxx did a good job. He was basically promoting himself and his tour dates. He said a few things about Michael that was it.
My favorite was Maxwell, the O’Jays and the one at the end "I’ll Be There" I do not like Ne-Yo or Jaime Foxx’s voice. They cannot sing to me. They sound very nasally and sound like it is all throat and not guts or stomach like the older and greater singers used to do. I hate new music. It is about nothing. But I like the first two because Maxwell and the O’Jays can sing. And my favorite song by Michael Jackson The Lady in my life was done by blah Ne-Yo. But he was alright.
At first I thought Janet was Diana and I was telling my brother that it was Diana. It was upon closer examination that it was Janet. And I got chills and then the picture was sad because she basically lost her big brother. I almost started to cry. But I think that Janet and the family should be a little disappointed because they did not really pay tribute to him like they should have. They were all selfish egotistical creatures. I am extremely sad about this. I feel like crying. He deserved more than this.
I think they did a good job I mean they had only a very few days 2 do it
Seems to me that instead of paying tribute, Jamie Foxx was making fun. I really didn’t have a favorite performance, I was looking forward to seeing Beyonce, but her performance, and outfit was bad.. I don’t know what happened to her.. Usually she delivers, every time she performs
Okay, so I never watch BET because it’s a racist network.
But I watched a smattering of this award show through YouTube.
I don’t even care about the somewhat spotty performances. I mean, after all, trying to sing and dance like Michael Jackson is impossible. They tried, it was just a tribute. No harm, no foul on that one.
BUT….
I think it was a disgusting display of militant black racism.
That’s what I think.
The racist phrases, and the excuses for Michael Jackson’s behavior!
i.e.
"It don’t make no difference what his nose looked like"
‘This black man’… ‘he belonged to us and we shared him with the rest of the world’
It doesn’t matter, eh? Yes it does.
The guy was screwed up, a drug and alcohol abuser, WITH CHILDREN IN THE HOUSE. He had obvious psychological problems and mutiliated his body with excessive surgery.
He was also a child molester.
He was GREAT SINGER. But that is not what counts in the scheme of being a good human being.
You want a good black role model who broke down racial barriers? Fine. There are thousands of them. Michael Jackson ain’t one of ‘em. He’s an embarrassment.
I think they had good intentions but it wasn’t as good as I thought it would be. I did start crying when I saw Janet. That was sad. But, I felt like BET was rushing to do a tribute. It was very sloppy even though I think they were trying. A seperate tribute would have been nicer. I also think everyone is gonna jump on this whole tribute thing which will get irratiting. Diddy and Chris Brown already got a song out. They’ll probably make a CD with different artists butchering his songs. I also agree with the person above me to a degree. I don’t particularly like BET b/c I think it promotes stereotypes of blacks but I did watch the award show to see what they’d do for MJ. Sometimes I feel like BET contradicts itself like how it now tells kids to go to college and make something of themselves and then plays music that promotes this image of gangtas and hoes and to love superficial things. I feel like it’s like someone opened up a liquor store in a black neighborhood and claims to have Alcohol Anonymous meetings in the back room. It doesn’t fit. BUT, I think we should honor Michael Jackson for all his acheivements in entertainment. Yeah his personal life was marred by allegations and drugs. (I don’t think the allegations were true because he reached a settlement for like $20 million with a couple kids and wouldn’t it be more important that that the pedophile was in jail instead of cashing in) But, MJ didn’t owe us his life or to be some public figure. He did so many things to help people and children.Yeah he was a little weird but he had a hard life with no child hood. Isn’t the cause of most people’s psychological problems related to childhood. He did a lot that transcended race in entertainment. He was the first black on MTV! His music touched many people of races, nationalities, and religions. That is why I agree with you about Jamie Foxx’s "He belongs to us" statement. No he didn’t. He didn’t belong to anybody but himself. Michael Jackson had just a big an influence on other races as ours. He is the King of Pop and there would be no Justin Timberlake without him. But anyways that’s my perspective.
The BET Awards was a disgrace. It’s a shame that this is what is defined in popular as black entertainment.
Jamie Foxx did a terrible job. In the beginning, he seemed like he was a drunken mess. But, I’m glad he sobered up for the ending.
All the performances were lackluster, especially Beyonce with her performance that seemed like she held a lot back, Jay-Z (good song, didn’t like the performance), Soulja Boy (just die already), and Lil Wayne and Yung Money: What were they thinking bringing 14 year olds on stage to that song? Great message Weezy (sarcasm)
The perfomance that stood out was Keri Hilson. She did an outstanding job and its always good to see the O’Jays perform classics.
Finally, as bad as the show was. The ending will be memorable and it was worthwhile watching that particular part. I wasn’t a big Michael Jackson fan, but seeing Janet walk out felt like clarification to the world that he’s really gone. It was a touching moment and Ne-Yo and Jamie Foxx did their best to top off her appearance. But, her just showing face changed everything crappy up to that point. Memorable moment, I’m sure Michael would have been proud of his little sister.
horrible i hated it
horrible horrible show
Jaime Foxx was trying to make it all about him
it all was horrible the only good part was when Janet came out it was a sad moment but overall the show was very disappointing
hopefully the MTV VMA do a better job
Jamie Foxx sucked!! Him doing horrible job singing and moon walking shouldn’t even called as tribute to Michael. Embarrassing.
I felt really sad and wanted to cry when Janet came out. I can tell she was holding back tear and try to finish the speech.
Its sad that people really recognized Michael’s talent and legacy after his death but not when he was well. I guess you are not really a legend until you die…
Never have I watched the BET awards why im not sure I listen to all the music. I am a 28 year old white female. Who grew up loving M.J. (Once again leave it to M.J. to break racial barriers on a T.V. channel that is racial, even though Jamie Foxx had to keep bring up race, not to sure Michael would of been happy with that) When I saw they were going to be on I knew I had to watch it because I knew it would be a tribute to M.J. I cried through most of it. I think everyone did a great job honering him but what I was disappointed with was Jamie Foxx doing a lot of the tributes. They could of got a whole lot of other people who could of done a whole hell of a lot better. I would of loved to see Usher or Chris Brow ( yeah I know he is going through drama but didnt Michael alot of the time, so who would of been a better person ) be the one who did the moon walk, these were people who have never denied that Michael was always there insperation. The last song would have be out standing with Usher, Chris Brown, Mariah, and Justin Timberlake. That would of been the people to hit the notes and nail the dance moves. It still made me cry for 4 hours. I will miss Michael forever I still cant believe he is gone. Great job to BET!
It was ok…i think jamie shudnt have sed the thing abt mj’s nose, but i think it was ok since they had 2 change things last minute
my favorite performance was the one with trey songz n tyrese i love trey songz but they really did kill it
I think janet weas strong 2 b able to come out and takl 2 everyone
I think Jamie’s performance was good he stepped over the line once or twice though.
My favorite performance was Maxwell’s I can’t really remember any of the others.
I thought Janet did very well. I wanted to cry because she was trying so hard not too.
I think the BET Awards was great. We really can’t say it was boring because they had to do last minute stuff for MJ. It was a surprise to us all. So they all did good. Whoo…for Janet, she did good coming on stage and saying her respect for the family.
I am very disappointed with the BET Awards show. It was the worst I have seen. I want to make it clear that I do like Jamie Foxx as an artist, but in paying tribute to Michael Jackson Jamie Foxx was not the perfect choice. While watching the show I only noticed Jamie Foxx promoting his album, in my opinion it was poorly put together and I think Michael Jackson and the Jackson family deserve so much more. It wasn’t a time to make jokes, although we are celebrating the life of Michael Jackson, but it seemed the focuse wasn’t on Michael at all. Diana Ross, Quincy Jones, Smokey Robinson, Paul Mc Cartney, Madonna, Lisa Marie Presley, and a host of other’s weren’t present. Was there any one there that really knew Michael Jackson? His family and fans wanted more tribute to him! The show was poorly organized, and I am aware they only had a few days to arrange but, darn they didn’t come up with much. Performances by Guy, Keith Sweat??? What the? I think Ne yo sang beautifully that was about the best performance last night along with Mary Mary. Other than that, it was sloppy, and why the scenes from "Baby Boy?" Terrible BET Awards gets two thumbs down from me. I pray Michael Jackson gets the tribute he DESERVES! Janet looked absolutely beautiful, I loved what she said and I wish she had said more because of my love for Michael (I’m a huge fan) but I do understand what they are going through, I know it must be terribly tough for them. Jackson family you are in my prayers, may GOD be with you and may MIchael finally be at peace!
BET set blacks folks back a few years after that coonerific crap. Despite the short notice they could’ve done away with a lot of that ghetto $hit that went on. BET hasn’t been the same since Viacom took over.
It was an embarassment and unorganized. All the performances were bad.
Jamie was a great host as a michael jackson fan i appreciate him honoring the huge icon by dressing like him.I like keyshia cole and monica and not to mention the o jays.Tyrese ,trey songz and johnny gilll did a fantastic job and so did ne-yo.I didnt like the others.when janet came out I wanted to cry it was one of those moments when you had to stand up and watch the tv.I can tell janet was very very hurt by the loss of her brother she couldnt even look back at the screen that showed their picture when they were smaller.I wanted to bawl but I stood strong.I think the tribute couldve been better but it was good even though it was rushed.
jamie foxx did not do a good job the 1st 5 min. he cussed about 10 times he called michael jackson a s.o.b.
not bad
Jamie Foxx did a good job
my favorite performance was when jeremih performed birthday sex for the pre show & monica and keyshia cole for the main show
i felt so sad for Janet, i didnt cry, but i just thinking what a beautiful and strong women she is
I thought they were better than the awards have been in the past. I think Neyo did a good job as well as keyshia cole and monica. Even drake(aubrey grahm) did a good job closing out w/ some tracks from his mixtape.
Jamie Foxx was always talking about his upcoming movies and tours. And this is supposed to be a tribute to "The King Of Pop" Michael Jackson (RIP Michael)
I did not really have a favorite because I had turned to channel half the time. But, the singers could have done a better job than what they did to do dances/singing about Michael Jackson. It seemed like everyone was mocking Michael.
I just wanted to cry along with her, but I held back the tears. Joe Jackson hardly showed any emotion about anything, except for thanking the people for doing such a "good job" on their tributes.
RIP MICHAEL JACKSON. LOVE YA
hell no it was an embarrassment!
Overall I thought the BET Awards were terrible. I think the fact that the award show was supposed to be a tribute to Michael Jackson made it worse BECAUSE he deserved better. I know the time factor played a role in this but if they couldn’t do it right they should have just waited until a later date to put together a more honorable tribute to him. Some of the performances, I thought, were inappropriate. Jamie Foxx was okay I wish he would have stopped advertising his Tour in New Orleans or wherever he’ll be on July 3 & 4th. My favorite performance was Maxwell. He put on such a classy show and I could tell that his performance was sincere. Ne-yo performed very well too. I was shocked to see Janet and she looked beautiful. I came to tears when she spoke. What a selfless and courageous thing for her to do 4days after he brothers death. Kudos to Janet and her family.
I thought Jamie was great!
He was the best host yet!
On the preshow they said its a tribute to Michael
not the WHOLE show about him!
Not to sit there and make us mourn and show us his whole life!
My favorite performance was Jamie Foxx 2nd performance "she got her own" with Ne-Yo
I wasnt to impressed with Beyonce or Ciara
BBD and OJ tribute was also one of the best parts
Monica & Keyshia Cole were really good
I also think Maxwell was fabulous and i cant wait for his album
Janets pain you could see in her face…made me sad
WHAT SHE SAID I DIDNT LIKE !
I would have rather her not speak…
Considering the short amount of time BET and Jamie Foxx had to put it together They did an amazing JOB! Jamie Foxx was hilarious !
They had been planning their program for over a year, and at the drop of a hat they changed the program to honor Micheal.
I appreciated how Jamie kept the perspective of keeping it positive in reference to Micheal while other media is tearing through Micheal personal business which is really none of our business.
Yes there could have been more people closer to Micheal there to pay tribute, but once again BET only had a short amount of time to put this together.
Also I enjoyed the performances. MY FAV: The tribute to OJays Tyrese and Jonny Gill tore it up!
It was nice how Janet came out, shocking since it was not announced that she was there or was going too making an appearance.
But over all I enjoyed the 2009 BET awards minus the fact I was wondering what the heck was Beyonce performance about, we have black opera singers so what was she doing?!?!?!
It was the best yet to me. Jamie Foxx is very funny and that is what he is about. I think all the performances were great and enjoyable and the speeches were well spoken. I think that 09 topped them all. They only had 2 days, they had to change everything and still had a amazing act. The things I probaly didn’t not like was the anoucing of awards because there wasn’t any nominees, some people didn’t know who they were but overall it was good. I loved the way the topped it off, or ended it will the duet ( Jaimie and Neyo) It was outstanding. I liked the Fake introdcing to a movie, it fooled me, everyone was like, I can’t wait until I watch that movie or Im gonna have to see it but it was a hi-larious moment. The tribute’s to Micheal, were kind because he said in the beginning that the point of the awards was for Micheal Jackson so the whole show was for him. But I love BET and no other award ceremony can top theirs
